That Feeling Where Two Hours Disappear and You Don't Even Notice
Share
You know the one. You sit down to paint and then you look up and the light has completely changed and your tea is cold and it's somehow two hours later and you're still mid piece and you couldn't care less.
That's flow. And it is genuinely one of the best feelings available to a human being on a regular tuesday evening.
I used to think it was something you had to earn. Like you had to be good enough at painting before you got access to the flow state. But that's not really how it works.
Flow gets interrupted by friction. Any moment where you have to stop and really think pulls you out of the creative headspace. And for painters, the biggest source of that friction is colour uncertainty.
When you're not sure if your colours are going to work together, you never fully let go. There's always a bit of your brain hovering over the colour decisions, waiting to intervene. And that bit of your brain being active is what stops you sinking into the work.
It's subtle. You might not even notice it happening. But it accumulates, and the result is that the deep, joyful, time-disappearing version of painting stays just out of reach.
The fix is pretty straightforward: remove the uncertainty. When your palette was curated so that every colour works with every other, there's nothing to be uncertain about. You reach for a colour and you just know it's going to be fine. and when that knowing is there, you can let go.
That's when flow shows up.
Every Plinky Paints set is built to get you there. The colour decisions are already made. your brain is free to just paint.
The two-hours-disappearing version. That's what we're going for.
